Left over pasta-dog!
Last night I made a big serving of pasta for Boyfriend that he didn’t finish and forgot to bring to work. So I combined the unseasoned noodles with some tasty pan-cooked hot dog slices for a filling late afternoon lunch. Nom nom nom. Since I skipped breakfast…again…/ahem/ I’ve been hankering all afternoon. Though a bit more filling then I normally like, you could use less pasta for a lighter meal or serve it for dinner instead.
Or just remember to have breakfast :P
Ingredients:
Left over pasta(I just used what was left over from last night, I’d say it’s about 3/4-1 cup worth cooked pasta)
1 hot dog
butter
olive oil
Italian seasoning
salt
pepper
garlic powder
Cooking:
I cooked up the hot dog first in a small pan until slightly burnt. Just how I like it. Then chopped into large pieces when cool.
To reheat the pasta I used the same small pan as I cooked the hot dog in, placed the left over pasta in the pan with about 1/3rd cup of water and covered over medium-high until the water boiled. When the pasta becomes soft again turn down the heat until the water evaporates and is completely(or at least mostly) gone from the pan.
With the pan now on low add butter and oil to the pasta and stir to cover. Add Italian herbs, pepper, salt, and garlic powder then mix well. Add more butter as needed to prevent noodles from burning on the pan, if you’re using non-stick this shouldn’t take much but I didn’t have one on hand so I needed a bit of extra butter
When the pasta and herbs are well combined add in the hot dog pieces and cook until warmed, then serve!
This can definitely air on being a bit heavy for lunch, but is a quick and tasty one for those of us who end up eating late in the day or as a tasty dinner.
If you’d like to cut down on the butter simply use a non-stick pan and substitute some butter for extra virgin olive oil or even an olive oil butter spread to cut down on some of the fat. Since I don’t have access to non-stick cookware right now I have to add a bit more butter to prevent burning.
I recommend Hebrew National hot dogs as well, simply because I prefer the taste! But again I didn’t have those on hand. If you’re curious, Hebrew National hot dogs are pure-beef and have less fat then traditional hot dogs as well as not having artificial colors, fillers, or meat by-products they’re also a good choice for people who need to watch their fat intake because of this.
